Homemade Beef Jerky

Homemade Beef Jerky – Yes, there is such a thing as lean fresh meat jerky. They can be low in cholesterol and fat, but at the same time – very high in protein. All of this combined,  makes beef jerky a nutritious and wholesome snack.

Homemade Beef Jerky is also an excellent energy food when camping, biking, skiing, or anytime you want a light snack. Not to mention it is easy to eat.

Ingredients:

3 lbs. meat (not ground meat)
2/3 cups Worcestershire Sauce
2/3 cups Organic Soy Sauce
1 teaspoons. Ground Black Pepper
1 teaspoons. Garlic Powder
1 tsp. Onion Powder
1 tsp. Sea Salt
2 tsp. Smoke flavoring
2 tsp. Tabasco Sauce (this depends on your taste buds)

Instructions for making Homemade Beef Jerky:

Step 1 – Marinade Beef Jerky Over Night

Mix all the ingredients together in a large plastic zipper bag. You can definitely use what you like for this. Zipper bags are easy to use and take up the least amount of space. In any way, do it as you normally to. Add the sliced meat into it and refrigerate, mixing it about every hour. Ideally, you should marinade it overnight.

Step 2 – Dry

When you are ready to begin drying the meat, place a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven. You can skip this but you will have a pain in the “you know what” when it is time to clean it. And you don’t want to deal with that later.

Step 3 – Drain

Drain the meat in a colander so you can get it dry with a paper towel. Remember, the drier the better for cases like this.

Step 4 – Set Oven

Set your oven to about 150 degrees and place the meat strips through the middle of the oven racks. Leave the door open to allow moisture to escape. This is the most important step in the process.

Step 5 – Dry

The drying time may vary depending on your oven and portions you plan to cook. The meat should be firm and dry, and shouldn’t feel like a sponge. However, keep in mind that if the jerky is too dry and it snaps easily, then its over dry. You can still eat it, but it won’t be as good. There is no fixed timeline on how long. It all depends on how you like it.

And there you have it. The best recipe out there for Homemade Beef Jerky.
