5 Ways to Wrap Up a Dinner Party
5 Ways to Wrap Up a Dinner Party

As much fun as a dinner party may be, there are always those evenings when the party seems to drag on just that little bit too long. For those of you who never quite know how to call an end to the evening, here are a few tips that you can try out next time.

Put a Time Range on the Invitation

If you do not usually send out dinner party invitations, then guests will not have any idea as to when they are expected to leave. By putting together invitations, and specifying a time range on them, then this will make it far easier for you to wrap your evening up, at a time that works for you.

Move on to Coffee

If the wine is still flowing, then it should come as no surprise that your guests have settled in for the evening and are not going to leave anytime soon. The best way to tackle this is by moving on to coffee at a certain time after dinner, and put away all of the alcohol.

Start Tidying Up

Once the conversation has started to die down, a great way to hint that the night is coming to a close is by beginning to tidy up. Whether you head to the kitchen to do a few dishes or simply start putting items away in the dining room, guests will begin to get the message that it is time to leave, and one or two may even offer you a helping hand to make the job easier.

Be Blunt…

If you have tried all of the above methods, and nothing has seemed to work, then it is time to be a little bit blunter. Try taking a long look at your watch and exclaiming out loud about how late the time is. Follow this up with an explanation that you need to be up early the next morning, and simply state that it is time to wrap the evening up.

…But Be Sensitive

No matter how frustrating it can sometimes be when a party seems to drag on, and all you want to do is go to bed, keep in mind that the only reason your guests are sticking around is because they are having such a great time. In order to make unexpected late night dinner parties easier to bear, make sure that you do not schedule anything important the next morning, as the thought of a lie-in will help the night to flow that much easier.

When it comes to calling an end to a dinner party, there are many ways in which you can go about doing this. From subtle hints to outright honesty, take the personalities of your guests in mind before choosing which method you go for.
